Dye Sublimation is a process where heat sensitive dyes are used to print graphics and text onto polyester fabrics. The basic principle is a graphic design is created with heat sensitive dyes on special transfer paper. This paper is then placed on the fabric and heat is applied with a heat press. When the heat process is completed your image or design has been transferred to the fabric. The advantages of sublimation is that during the heat process the polyester fabric actually melts to allow the colour to penetrate below the surface thus creating a fabric with built in colour. This is different from printing where the colour sits on top of the fabric and is easily open to fading. The disadvantages of sublimation is that it is only available to use on polyester and not cotton or any other fabric.
